The case for Hesalite
- It is the look and material of the Moonwatch's history. The domed acrylic gives the dial a warm look with a little distortion at the edges that many people love.
- It does not shatter. It can scratch, but light scratches polish out with a bit of polishing compound.
- It costs less, both at retail and used.
The case for the Sapphire Sandwich
- Sapphire shrugs off scratches in daily wear.
- The display back shows the hand-wound Caliber 3861, which is nice to watch while you wind it.
- The crystal looks crisper and a bit more modern, with more reflections.
Our verdict
If you want the Moonwatch for what it is, buy the Hesalite and spend the difference on a strap or two. If you are hard on watches or want to see the movement, the Sapphire Sandwich is worth the extra few hundred dollars on the gray market. Either way, there is no reason to pay full retail right now.
