How We Track Watch Prices
Asking prices
We look at current dealer listings for each exact reference, in new or like-new condition with box and papers where possible. We drop obvious outliers, then record a low, a typical (middle), and a high asking price. We started these checks on September 22, 2026 and now update them monthly.
Asking is not selling
These are asking prices, not the price a watch actually sold for. Real sales are often lower, especially on expensive watches and when you negotiate. Use our numbers as a guide, not a quote.
Retail prices
US retail prices come from saved copies of the brands' own websites and from published news reports about price changes. Each watch page lists the source and date for every price. When we cannot document a change in a given year, the chart holds the last price we could confirm.
Older prices
Our own checks start in September 2026. For earlier years we sometimes quote a figure that another publication reported, always credited and linked. We do not chart other sites' data as if it were ours.
Over or under retail
"Vs retail" is the typical asking price minus US retail, divided by US retail. Retail is before sales tax.
Watch drawings
Every watch image on this site is an original drawing made for us. They are simplified on purpose and carry no brand names or logos.
